The Department of Defence has announced a four-year agreement with international hardware and software specialist Oracle to rationalize and upgrade its ICT infrastructure.

The agreement will see a department-wide, unlimited use of more than 200 of Oracle’s software products from across the company’s database and middleware portfolios.

The use of Oracle’s software suite will see Defence migrate from a highly complex enterprise architecture to an integrated and standardised suite of infrastructure suite.

The purchase forms part of Defence’s extensive Strategic Reform Program (SRP), which aims to identify and deliver savings of up to $20 billion between 2010 and 2020, including $1.9 billion in ICT savings.

Oracle’s relationship with Defence goes back almost 20 years and we are delighted to be extending and elevating that relationship through this agreement. With Oracle’s help, we will be able to modernise and consolidate our IT environment to boost the ability of our IT staff and systems to provide value, increase efficiency and support innovation,” said Matt Yannopoulos, Chief Technology Officer, Department of Defence.

“With just under 81,000 full-time personnel and active reservists, we needed a consolidated HR solution that would enable us to transform the way we deliver HR and talent management services across all arms of the Defence Force,” said Greg Farr, Chief Information Officer at the Department of Defence.
