Construction and engineering firm Downer EDI has been awarded a major contract for the rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN) to homes and businesses in New South Wales.

Under the $94 million NBN Project, Downer will be responsible for construction of the optical fibre network from the main fibre nodes to the boxes outside the home or business that allows customers to connect to the NBN.

“Downer is very pleased to be supporting NBN Co’s expanding program to roll out its high speed broadband network across Australia," Downer's CEO Grant Fenn said.

"This contract in northern New South Wales follows the announcement in December 2012 that Downer had been awarded a contract valued at $66 million for design and construction of services to connect flats and units to the NBN in New South Wales, Victoria and the ACT."
