The National Broadband Network Co (NBN Co) has announced the laying of the first fibre in Prospect, marking the commencement of the full rollout of the service across Adelaide.

The distribution fibre, which connects the exchange at Prospect to the local area, was hauled earlier last week.

“The construction today shows work is underway to build the network, which will provide super-fast broadband to parts of Adelaide throughout 2014,” NBN Co Spokesman Tony Gibbs said.

“Design and construction work has already commenced on rolling out the NBN to around 15,000 homes and businesses in Prospect,” he said.

“In Prospect we’re aiming for the first stages of construction to be completed by the end of the year, which means homes and businesses are expected to be able to connect to services over the NBN shortly after.”

The NBN is looking to have 327,000 homes and businesses throughout South Australia connected by 2015.
