Telstra has announced plans to spend $800 million in upgrading its cloud computing capacity over the next five years.

The investment will include:

  • the building of a new state-of-the-art Australian data centre;
  • modernising facilities at existing Telstra data centres;
  • expanding the range of enterprise applications;
  • a new integrated online account management portal;
  • increased automation of utility computing services; and
  • enhanced T-Suite® capabilities and new applications.

CEO David Thodey said Telstra was experiencing strong sales in cloud voice and video services, which are exceeding 80 per cent per year. "We now manage more than 100,000 IP telephony services delivered from the cloud,” he said.

“There is no one solution that fits all with cloud computing. Telstra is investing to develop and deliver cloud computing solutions that can meet the individual needs of Australian businesses and governments,” Mr Thodey said.

Telstra has partnered with cloud technology vendors Cisco, VMware and its integration and go-to-market partner Accenture, to build the next phase of its integrated cloud platform as well as using cloud technology partners such as Microsoft to deliver cloud services built with the specific needs of Australian organisations in mind.
