Serco Australia, the local arm of UK-based service and management provider which was a month ago awarded the contract to manage Western Australia’s new Fiona Stanley Hospital, has awarded the IT contract for the hospital to British Telecommunications.

The deal has been criticized by opposition spokesman for IT strategy, Andrew Waddell, as a "boys looking after boys" deal.  Mr Waddell has called for the Health Minister Kim Hames to outline what tender process, if any, was undertaken and if Western Australian IT companies were given an opportunity to apply.
