About us

ccCHiP is a clinical research unit supported by Sydney University and Sydney Local Health District (SLHD). It has a two-fold purpose: to improve the models of medical comorbidity care for people with enduring psychotic illness, and to develop predictive tools to help early detection and prevention of incipient cardiovascular and metabolic disease in recently diagnosed persons.

ccCHiP is a data-driven service. Clinicians use a bespoke database/RAD tool live with patients to record key clinical interview data from up to 8 clinical disciplines (general medicine, psychiatry, cardiology, endocrinology, sleep, exercise physiology, dietetics, and dentistry). This same tool is used in the clinic to present graphics and gauges to patients to help enhance their adherence to interventions. The tool also generates the key data for use in statistical analysis (SAS, SPSS, Stata) that are used to produce research reports and generate service analyses for SLHD planners. Finally, the tool has embedded educational elements so as to also provide a training platform for the multiple disciplines who use it.

The team are also developing integration with the SLHD eMR, public and private pathology services, and other key data sources (e.g. e-prescribing) using HL7 messaging and related technologies.
