About the opportunity 

The Senior Technical Officer - Imaging Informatics will join Sydney Imaging Core Research Facility (CRF) to develop, build and operate Sydney Imaging’s latest research IT Imaging informatics infrastructure for our researchers. The incumbent will work with Sydney Imaging staff, researchers at the University and staff from ICT to deploy, support, maintain, and continuously improve a range of informatics systems dedicated to support multimodal imaging research.

The role is responsible for a range of tasks within Sydney Imaging CRF, including designing software solutions for imaging infrastructure and deployment of software pipelines and high performance computing interface for analysis support, undertaken within a network of collaborations. Working with researchers, the role provides high-level imaging informatics technical support for multidisciplinary research. The Officer manages and supervises the technical operations of the informatics functions of the CRF and provides sound, expert technical support and advice to researchers and students using the CRF. The role ensures that the CRF imaging data infrastructure is properly maintained

  • experience in High Performance Computing architecture (HPC)
  • Experience in scripting/programming languages such as XML, Bash, Python and Powershell
  • Experience in web-services infrastructure including web, application, and databases
  • Knowledge of tools such as Docker Swarm and in imaging software such as FSL, SPM, as well as Matlab (preferably)

A CRF is a centralised, shared capability spanning multiple faculties, providing access to high-end research infrastructure and offering a range of related services to assist researchers with specialist applications. The facilities serve as focal points of research activity, bringing together a critical mass of researchers from diverse disciplines, while providing the means to better manage and sustain high-end research infrastructure to deliver quality research outcomes, particularly in areas of strategic priority.

The mission of the Sydney Imaging CRF is to provide core set of state-of-the-art for clinical, preclinical imaging equipment as well as hybrid theatre intervention surgery and associated services to researchers across disciplines. The facility has multiple nodes including the Brain and Mind Centre and Charles Perkins Centre.

Biomedical Imaging research involves imaging data acquisition, image processing, image content representation, enhanced image interpretation and management of images as well as data integrity and data storage. These imaging informatics processes represent major workflows and pipelines. Sydney Imaging users will generate massive multimodal imaging data for their imaging-based research. A centralised integrated imaging informatics platforms is being developed that can combine data, meta-data and workflows that are essential for advances, collaborations and discoveries in imaging core facilities and its multidisciplinary users.
