About us
State Library Victoria is Australia's oldest and busiest public library and a Victorian icon, welcoming nearly 2 million visitors a year and 4.5 million online visitors a year. Home to a collection of over 4.9 million items including books, manuscripts, photographs, maps and ephemera, the Library is Victoria's leading gateway to the world's information and a hub of inspiring programming, events and exhibitions. The Library is half way through a once-in-a-generation redevelopment that will see a suite of new spaces, facilities, services and programming open at the end of 2019, further cementing it as a world leader in libraries.

About the role
The role will work collaboratively within the organisation, finding new ways to celebrate the Library's collections, programs and initiatives and position State Library Victoria as a leading online voice for libraries, culture, history and ideas.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the social media content plan across the Library's owned channels and identifying opportunities to amplify our stories and offerings.
  • Unearth new ways to engage audiences, improve sharability and support key projects.
  • Develop and oversee the execution of content marketing and digital buying strategies across digital and social platforms.
  • Understand and apply emerging social media trends.

The Social Media Specialist is accountable for the following measurable outcomes:

  • Brand exposure, profile, advocacy and impact.
  • Content planning and amplification through owned and paid digital channels.
  • Audience engagement, acquisition, retention and growth.
  • Compelling storytelling, celebrating collections and offerings.

About you
You will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social or digital media or related field and/or relevant work experience within a similar role. At least 5 years' experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience using digital platforms including Google Analytics, Facebook Insights and Power Editor, Twitter Analytics, Hootsuite, Campaign Monitor, YouTube, Google Ads Manager.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to adapt tone of voice to suit different audiences and platforms.
  • The ability to craft clever content whilst operating effectively in an agile environment.
  • A keen sense of emerging social trends.
  • Experience with photography and video editing principals.
