The Scientific Computing group within the Information Management & Technology function provides end-to-end infrastructure ranging from generic corporate IT systems through to leading edge High Performance data processing tools and platforms. The teams manage over 30PB of data with a compounded annual growth rate, and a proportionate computational and network fabric including several Top500 supercomputers, HPC Cloud and a highly versatile and robust corporate hosting platform. Additional services include advanced visualisation, data processing, application support, and software delivery. The capability is highly customer focussed and operates closely in partnership with all areas of CSIRO research.
The role of Data Team Leader is a senior leadership position within the function, and is responsible for team leadership, implementation, and sustainment of scientific computing platforms and deliverables in line with organisational strategies and operational requirements. The role also incorporates team mentoring, including development, optimisation and maturity growth of our workforce capability.
The Scientific Computing Data team provide block, file and cloud storage, data protection mechanisms, as well as a nationwide high performance data fabric, big data solutions, parallel file systems, and long term hierarchical storage management. These services are delivered using a mix of technologies and provide platforms for the management of CSIRO’s corporate and science datasets.
The role has ongoing strategic engagement with the IMT Executive and Senior Management team to contribute to the formation, review and execution of strategic and operational plans. In this role you will liaise directly with other areas of the CSIRO business through targeted engagement, outreach activities, and daily service delivery to ensure that IMT services, ongoing capability development, and investment are effectively targeted to support CSIRO strategy. You will build strong networked relationships with our business to ensure that IMT services accurately and efficiently respond and deliver services that most appropriately enable the core science and functional business of CSIRO.

As the team leader you will have a strong background in data storage and data protection systems. You will be at that point in your career where you are looking leverage your extensive experience in storage systems and now looking to or are currently leading a highly effective team utilising leading edge technologies. You will structure your team to most effectively develop the individual’s career and skills while continually improving the services your team delivers to the Nation’s leading science organisation.
To be successful in this role you will possess highly skilled industry applied knowledge ensuring that technical implementations are achieved through planning, configuration, testing and interoperability of the solutions; combined with mentoring team members, communicating across stakeholders, unifying strategic direction, and ensuring the outcomes are professionally managed to successfully guide CSIRO staff and systems in a challenging and dynamic environment.
A market-based salary is negotiable with successful candidate.

To be successful you will need:
- Relevant Tertiary and/or industry qualifications in IT or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- Current or ability to obtain a Negative Vetting 1 (SECRET) level security clearance.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a leadership role managing the service delivery aspects of enterprise scale services.
- Demonstrational leadership of groups of technical professionals.
