CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowship in Aquaculture Genomics and Advanced Breeding
CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.
Genomics continues to rapidly advance biological knowledge across a range of diverse species and to revolutionise breeding activities for more sustainable, resilient and productive plants and animals. The development of genomic tools, datasets and knowledge for aquaculture species is rapidly advancing, and the implementation of genomic selection is a key area of interest for aquaculture industries.
This is driving a research need to attain detailed knowledge of genome structure and variation for target aquaculture species that can be coupled with custom built genomic tools and improved analytical methodologies to speed genetic gain and transform industry practise.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to the discovery of new genomics understanding in the areas of comparative genomics, functional annotation, analytical development and the application of new knowledge to advance applied breeding outcomes. The research opportunity spans the target finfish, oyster and prawn species that are the focus of commercial applied breeding programs operated by the CSIRO team.
