The Opportunity

CSIRO is on a mission to future-proof Australia's biosecurity system. This is a rare opportunity to help protect Australia from the growing threats and impacts arising from pests, weeds and diseases.

We plan to develop large scale, collaborative portfolios of research activities with government and industry to support the Commonwealth Biosecurity 2030 roadmap and agenda.

We need early to mid-career researchers in science and engineering to solve impossible problems and develop large scale, science-based innovations that are achievable and have the potential to improve long-term biosecurity outcomes for Australia.

We particularly welcome applications from candidates with a background in computer and data sciences who are passionate about applying those skills to help future-proof Australia’s biosecurity system.

In a globally connected world, Australia is under constant threat from pests, weeds and diseases. Major incursions are associated with international trade and outbreaks experienced in other countries highlight the impact on agriculture, people movement and business activities.

Accelerated innovation and investment in biosecurity has the potential to protect and enhance Australia's economic, agricultural and environmental interests.

Together with government, industry, universities, community and indigenous partners, we aim to take biosecurity R&D from a transactional business to a scaled series of co-developed multidisciplinary, multi-party projects focussed on transformational technology-led systems and solutions.
