The Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group is a key enabler for the Australian Defence Force through the acquisition and through-life support of military equipment and capability.

With a combined Australian Public Service and military workforce of around 5,000 people, Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group manages the delivery of more than 150 complex projects and over 100 sustainment products, with an annual budget in excess of $12 billion.

Command and Support Systems Branch, acquires and sustains military information technology that generates a significant element of the Australian Defence Force’s Command and Control capability, provides for Tactical Information Exchange, and supports Intelligence and Military Geospatial capabilities.

We are offering a unique and rewarding opportunity for an individual with relevant supplier management experience, domain knowledge and a proven record of achievement as a senior manager who is seeking to contribute to Australia’s Defence and security.

We are looking for a person who is:

  • capable of leading significant and challenging reforms;
  • capable of leading Australian Public Service, Australian Defence Force and industry personnel;
  • an exceptional communicator and manager with proven negotiation skills; and
  • possesses deep knowledge, skills and specialist expertise acquired through significant professional experience.

To be a strong contender, you will be a flexible and collaborative leader who is prepared to take calculated risks. You will be resilient, have proven high level communication skills and be personally accountable for the quality of advice and the delivery of results. To perform effectively in this position you will need to have an in-depth understanding of engineering practice and electronic systems technologies with extensive experience in the area of business management including complex contract management and procurement processes for complex systems.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis.  To be eligible, an applicant must be an Australian citizen.  This is a security-designated position.  The successful applicant will be required to undergo security assessments to the highest level. The position is located inCanberra.
