The Program Leader Science Information Management & Technology (PLSIMT) is a critical Defence Science & Technology (DST) position responsible for the transformative strategy and design aspects, as well as the security components of, specialised research information management and communication technologies required to keep DST Group at the forefront of research and development. 

PLSIMT reports directly to the Chief of Research Services and under broad guidance will lead a branch responsible for the realisation of future DST Group technology requirements, as well as research ICT security, research information management and science knowledge services, ensuring a pragmatic, client-focussed outcome for DST Group research ICT requirements, across a specialised and highly distributed research environment.  

The work performed is at a very high level of managerial and technical complexity in specialised scientific technology and information capabilities. PLSIMT leads and manages a Branch of approximately 50 staff, located around Australia, and organized into the following Directorates:

  • Science Knowledge Services
  • Information Management & Technology Strategy and Governance
  • Information Management & Technology Portfolio Management and Resourcing
  • Research Architecture and Design

The position requires an incumbent to quickly acquire and then maintain detailed knowledge and understanding of the breadth of the DST science and technology program and an awareness of DST's science and technology developments, using a wide range of collaborative networks and fora.   As the lead for research ICT transformation in DST, they will develop and interpret a wide array of policy and requirements, produce high-level documentation that meets the needs of the DST leadership, and deliver the outcomes to the DST scientists.
