ASD are seeking dynamic Senior Executives to drive the organisation forward and deliver against our three principal functions:

  • collect foreign signals intelligence;
  • enhance Australia’s cyber resilience; and
  • conduct offensive cyber operations.

To achieve these functions, ASD requires people with high levels of integrity and a mix of specialist skills, key among which are adaptability, imagination, and resilience. These are needed to out-think and out-imagine our adversaries and solve seemingly intractable technical and operational challenges. First Assistant Director-General Access and Effects Operations
Group: Signals, Intelligence & Effects

As the First Assistant Director-General Access and Effects Operations you will lead a high-tempo and diverse operational division responsible for delivering critical outcomes in support of Government, the Australian Defence Force and ASD functions. The successful candidate will report directly to the Deputy Director-General Signals Intelligence and Effects. 

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience leading an operational workforce, sound judgment used to manage competing operational priorities and risks, an ability to drive requirements that enable operations to be executed in a dynamic strategic environment, and an ability to foster and leverage strategic relationships with a diverse set of partners and stakeholders.

First Assistant Director-General Cyber Threat Intelligence
Group: Cyber Security Centre

As First Assistant Director-General of Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) Division you will lead a division that defends Australia from global cyber threats and advances the national interest through intelligence and cyber security services. The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of the Australian Cyber Security Centre. 

The successful candidate will oversee a division that performs a range of intelligence and technical cyber security functions that inform the National Threat Picture and keep Australians and their data secure. This includes: technical advice and assistance to victims of cyber incidents; performs malware analysis, threat hunting and active vulnerability assessments; and conducts a range of activities to counter high harm cyber adversaries, including working with domestic and international partners to develop and deliver technical counter-cybercrime operations. The division also produces a range of products on high harm cyber actors and activities targeting Australia’s networks of significance, from unclassified technical advice on malicious cyber activity through to classified intelligence and assessments.

First Assistant Director-General
Group: Capability & Transformation 

First Assistant Director-General’s within the Capability and Transformation Group lead ASD’s significant portfolio of large scale mission critical capabilities. The successfully candidate will report directly to the Deputy Director-General Capability and Transformation.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams that develop new capabilities and provide technical services to achieve strategic and operational outcomes. ASD is delivering a significant new program of work, and your leadership will be key to ensuring ASD maintains existing missions whilst also delivering new outcomes for the organisation. You will manage significant staff and budget resources, leverage strategic industry relationships and co-operatively engage with customers and stakeholders. You will have the opportunity to enhance current practices in pursuit of greater efficiencies, driving transformation and continuous improvement.

As a Division Head (SES Band 2) in ASD you will join the Senior Leadership Group and play a key role in leading and influencing a high-performing integrated civilian/military organisation. You will influence the strategic direction of ASD and work with colleagues across the Defence portfolio and Government to achieve results.

In these roles you will:

  • lead and manage a Division using inclusive leadership, including leading change and transformation initiatives in support of ASD’s objectives;
    • exercise high-level judgement, and capitalise on innovative alternatives to resolve complex problems;
    • think laterally, effectively challenge the status quo and provide contestability in decision making; and
    • demonstrate resilience and take personal accountability for achieving results.
