These positions are primarily responsible for the commercialisation of intellectual property developed at DST Group. They will work with researchers from across DST to identify, assess, protect and commercialise intellectual property through licensing to existing companies and establishing spin outs. In doing so, the incumbent will help DST, through commercially pragmatic advice, understand the value of intellectual property as an enabler to enhanced Defence capability.

As such, the ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships such as with the DST Program leaders, Defence Innovation Hub and Centre for Defence Industry Capability is paramount to the success of the position. In addition:

1. Assess the commercialisation potential of new technologies including intellectual property (IP) position (prior art searching) and market potential using market analysis, technical assessment and feedback from industry contacts, providing recommendations of whether and how to progress the opportunity
2. Assist with the management of intellectual property working with the IP Manager and external patent attorneys as appropriate
3. Draft technical and commercial content and produce marketing materials for new technologies and DST as required
4. Work with researchers to secure suitable resources to add value to the technology (including providing advice on IP issues in grant and other funding applications)
5. Work with researchers, Science Partnerships and Engagement Division staff and S&T Divisional staff to identify, match and engage companies for commercialisation of new technologies, taking the lead on some opportunities
6. Take a lead role in the negotiation of commercial terms for the commercialisation of technologies
7. Work closely with Defence Legal to prepare draft agreements with commercialisation partners.
