The Role

This is a unique opportunity to lead a program of acquisition and upgrade projects that will deliver the Royal Australian Air Force's next generation of surveillance and response aviation capabilities including the P-8A Poseidon program and, in future, the MQ-4 Triton Remotely Piloted Aircraft System. The program also acquires aeronautical life support equipment that is crucial to Defence Aviation safety across the Air Force, Navy and Army, and includes such items as Chemical, Biological and Nuclear protective equipment, Helmets and Night Vision equipment.

As the leader of the Surveillance and Response System Program Office (SRSPO) Acquisition Program you will assume accountability for very complex and sensitive projects that have strategic, operational and political significance as well as assessing and managing risk across all elements of the program. You will be responsible for influencing and developing strategies, policies, priorities and operational practices in support of Defence objectives based on high level decision making and judgement. You will also provide strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders including local and international industry partners and overseas Defence organisations.

As a leader of people you will set the strategic direction, establish program priorities and engage with a multi-disciplinary workforce comprised of Military and Civilian personnel who are specialists in project management, project controls, engineering and integrated logistics support management. You will be accountable for developing, coaching and reviewing individual, team and business performance, and will identify opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement.

Additionally, the position is a member of the SRSPO Senior Leadership Group and Executive Steering Group who set the culture and strategic direction for SRSPO.

About our Team

The Surveillance and Response Systems Program Office (SRSPO) ensures the availability and performance of highly complex surveillance and response airborne and related systems for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). This includes the new P-8A Poseidon aircraft system and the P-3C (Electronic Warfare) aircraft capability. SRSPO also acquires and supports common Aeronautical Life Support Equipment (ALSE) that is used on all air vehicles operated by the RAAF, Navy and Army. In the near future we will support a new remotely piloted, high altitude, long endurance aircraft system, the MQ4 Triton. At SRSPO we are passionate about working with our stakeholders and industry partners to ensure that necessary acquisition, sustainment and regulatory requirements are fulfilled in order to support the warfighter and achieve the Department of Defence’s strategic and operational objectives.

SRSPO offers an interesting and supportive work environment, a range of wellbeing activities and flexible work arrangements including the ability to work from home.

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a significant record of achievements in Defence capability acquisition management with extensive knowledge relating to the methodology, systems and procedures within the Project Management function.

You will also be an exceptional people manager with values that are aligned with that of Defence and therefore SRSPO.
