The Role

The EL1 Certification and Safety Manager (CSM) core responsibility within Hydrographic Systems Program Office Engineering team is the management of the Certification Basis and the Safety Case for the Leeuwin and Paluma Class hydrographic vessels. This is an essential component of Seaworthiness Assurance.

The CSM will manage the Certification Basis and the Safety Case for CN46 and CA42 products, each of which is a central responsibility of the HSPO Engineering Function. It has become increasingly complex and dynamic following the introduction into service of the Rapid Environmental Assessment Capability, the revision of Army Marine regulatory framework, and the on-going roll-out of the Defence Seaworthiness Management System.

The CSM will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area.

Our Ideal Candidate
The EL1 Certification and Safety Manager is required to understand engineering disciplines, implement engineering processes and procedures to ensure technical compliance and integrity. The candidate must communicate and engage with stakeholders to plan, develop, integrate, manage and evaluate projects and engineering management systems to deliver the engineering aspects within the Defence materiel capability life cycle. The candidate will investigate and expose risk, analyse and report on engineering issues, requirements, develop and implement recommendations and advice.

The CSM will have a collaborative leadership style and accountable to ensure they have knowledge of/and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

They will display an ability to think and act strategically; align outcomes to meet strategic requirements; will consider how their decisions affect people, provide support to their team and strive to meet and exceed business goals. They will have a considerable level of stakeholder engagement and liaison in relation to complex issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes.
