The Role

The Data Quality and Assurance Technical Data Officer collaborates with a multidisciplinary technical and insights team to ensure data can be translated into valuable reports and data visualisations that JHC decision-makers can use to improve health system services for Defence members. The work investigates the quality, completeness and accuracy of underlying system data to find opportunities for increasing the integrity of the Defence electronic Health System (DeHS). With quality data the HIO will be able to produce accurate and informative reporting, so that JHC can achieve positive health outcomes for personnel and help shape the Defence health system.

The Technical Data Officer will be responsible for:

  • Responding to direction from HIO members regarding data investigations
  • Querying and extracting data to support business questions
  • Producing raw reports that may be further enhanced by the insights team
  • Assisting with technical advice for projects and supporting release management, if required
  • Supporting data migration, governance archival, or quality assurance activities
  • Data acquisition, profiling, cleansing and consolidation.

About our Team

Joint Health Command (JHC) enables a healthy, ready, and supported Force from enlistment through to transition, through the delivery of reliable, resilient, affordable and best practice health services for Defence members. JHC provides a joint health effect to enable ADF capability. The Health Information Office (HIO) within JHC was established in September 2019 to manage health information governance, health record extracts and data provision, as well as driving digital health transformation in Defence through advanced analytics. The HIO serves a critical function and service in providing the Surgeon General of the Australian Defence Force (SGADF), commanders and clinicians with health system insights that help to inform, improve member care and service delivery efficiencies.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate for this role:

  • Capability to developed visually stimulating and intuitive information graphics.
  • Capability to design, test, develop and deliver data driven dashboards, using tools like PowerBI, Tableau, Cognos, and potentially open-source visualisation libraries (D3.js, Bokeh, Graphana etc.)
  • Capability to understand and implement the practical application of data and design to deliver effective data journalism
  • Capability to develop static visualisations for publication using tools within the Adobe creative suite
  • Capability to think critically and creatively, and to use appropriate and innovative quantitative analyses to address applied problems
  • Capability to organise, project manage, and time manage
  • Capability to interpret and translate complex data into insights that are informative to general audiences
