The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated person to lead, manage and deliver Defence’s Integrated Surveillance Systems strategic research and innovation program. You will:

  • Lead the integration of surveillance systems research and innovation programs to establish world class Defence surveillance systems capabilities
  • Innovate and collaborate with key Defence stakeholders and external partners
  • Inspire transdisciplinary teams to solve challenging Defence problems

You will drive and manage leap-ahead, multi-disciplinary research programs in emerging Science and Technology that integrate new surveillance systems technologies, and contribute to building next generation sovereign multi-function technologies to enhance Defence capability.

You will contribute and enhance collaborative opportunities and partnerships with Australia’s leading scientists, building and sustaining effective relationships with a network of research partners across academia, industry and Government.

The role requires you to:

  • Lead and manage multi-disciplinary surveillance systems research partnerships, networks and activities to deliver an integrated surveillance systems research program.
  • Engage constructively with Defence and other stakeholders to understand and define mission related problems to shape the integrated surveillance research program; and identify opportunities to transition next generation technologies and research capabilities to relevant Defence projects and programs.
  • Advocate, support and apply required methods, procedures and techniques to effectively manage the integrated surveillance systems research program’s deliverables; and provide technical and financial authority and oversight to meet program milestones.
  • Undertake required and appropriate reporting and risk management to ensure program integrity, and support senior decision making. This includes producing briefs, publications and presentations.
  • Provide support and representation to the Multifunction Aperture Next Generation Technologies Fund (NGTF) program leader in senior Defence forums and committees.

About our Team
Intelligence, Surveillance and Space Division (ISSD) undertakes internationally-recognised research and development into technologies aimed at enhancing the national capability to produce accurate, relevant and timely actionable intelligence for both Defence and national agency decision makers.

Surveillance Systems Branch undertakes research to develop, demonstrate and transition resilient surveillance system capabilities that enable Defence to prevail in contested environments. It comprises technology areas including active and passive radar, imaging radar, electro-optical sensing and hyperspectral imaging systems. It conducts research and development in exemplar sensor technologies and integrated sensor systems, processing and interpretation of integrated sensor data, system analysis and evaluation, and electronic protection.
