The Role
As a principle staff officer to Commandant DCSTC, the EL1 ICT Manager is accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex to very complex ICT development and maintenance work within an integrated workforce. DCSTC is seeking a motivated individual who is required to have an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making, Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

They will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role, exercising sound decision making and judgement to provide expert policy advice, with in-depth knowledge of the ICT business management functions.

They must be accountable to plan, lead and manage a range of human and physical resources and exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve business outcomes. They will develop and implement policy, work plans, set performance indicators, review individual, team and business performance, focusing on identifying opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement.

About our Team
The Defence Command Support Training Centre (DCSTC) incorporates the Defence Force School of Signals Melbourne Vic, Defence School of Intelligence Canungra QLD, Defence Force School of Policing Holsworthy NSW and the Defence Force School of Music Melbourne Vic.

DCSTC is seeking an ICT Manager to provide technical management and governance of a significant number of existing Army managed ICT capabilities. This position also plays a pivotal role in the technical leadership and technical control of 9 embedded Army APS ICT Professionals including 5 APS6 ICT System Managers deployed in DCSTC training units in VIC, NSW and QLD. Travel to each of these locations will be required.

  • Experience working in a similar role ensuring the alignment of governance, risk and compliance frameworks.
  • Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships, liaise with a range of stakeholders including other teams, peers and colleagues across Defence and other organisations.
  • To engage in complex to very complex problem solving and issues management, coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.
  • Be able to work in a fluid environment by remaining flexible, agile and adaptable.
