The Role
The EL1 ICT Service Design, Implementation and Engagement Lead will contribute to, and achieve, complex network planning and design in an integrated team. You will require an in-depth knowledge of compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. You will be required to engage in complex problem solving, and coordinate projects that contribute to operational and strategic outcomes for Defence, Government and international partners.

Key duties:

  • Responsible for significant aspects of the planning, operation and control of local and wide area networks for the communication of data, voice, audio, text or images.
  • Analyse very complex network engineering issues, applying expertise to identify and recommend courses of action.
  • Liaise with a range of stakeholders including teams across Defence, Government, industry and foreign nations.
  • Has expertise in change management to ensure the continuity of network operations and business functions.
  • Evaluate projects to understand critical factors for integration.

About our Team
The Directorate of Military Plans is a multi-disciplinary team within the Chief Information Officer Group responsible for the planning and implementation of ICT and CIS services to Australian Defence Force Operations, Defence business, Whole-of-Government interoperability and enablement, and coalition services.

Our Ideal Candidate
The Directorate of Military Plans is looking for a high performing and experienced network and systems engineer to join their small and dynamic team in a highly skilled and diverse environment. The Directorate is dedicated to the planning and implementation of ICT networks and CIS for Australian Defence Force Operations, Defence business, Whole-of-Government interoperability and enablement, and coalition services.

To be successful in this role you will be able to:

  • Lead the planning for the implementation, upgrade, operation, control and effective use of ICT and CIS networks.
  • Analyse very complex network engineering issues, recommending considered courses of action.
  • Evaluate projects to understand critical factors for success and integration.
  • Has expertise in change management, applying this experience to ensure continuity of network operations and business functions.
  • Build and sustain relationships with a broad stakeholder community.
  • Work in an operations focused by remaining flexible, agile and adaptable.


This position is being offered as on-going and requires a PV security clearance, or the ability to attain a PV security clearance, and is based at the Defence Network Operations Centre, HMAS Harman, ACT.
