The Treasury has appointed a new CIO.

Heath Axelby has been announced as the new chief information officer, after former CIO Mike Webb became the department’s major IT projects branch assistant secretary in April 2021.

He is likely familiar with his new duties already, having completed a six-month stint as acting tech chief.

Big tech projects at the Treasury include a new federal payments management system, which was set up last year to automate agency payments to the states and territories.

It is also running a desktop modernisation project, according to Treasury’s latest annual report.
