TPG has been fined for spamming customers.

The major Australian ISP has been fined $360,000 by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) for not unsubscribing customers when they requested to stop receiving marketing messages.

An ACMA investigation earlier this year found TPG’s systems did not properly process unsubscribe requests.

Consumers complained that TPG continued to send marketing SMS messages to them after they requested not to receive any.

Australia's Spam Act 2003 law says consumers must consent to receiving commercial electronic messages.

ACMA says it decided against taking TPG to court because the provider co-operated with the investigation, admitted the breaches, and had taken steps to remedy the cause.
