About the Role
The Media and Communication Department at Swinburne University of Technology wishes to appoint an ongoing Senior Lecturer, Immersive Media to join the academic team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a media academic to lead curriculum design and advance the development of a unique, cross-disciplinary major in Immersive Media, strengthen links between teaching and research programmes, and lead engagement with immersive media and screen entertainment industries.
As Senior Lecturer, Immersive Media, you will contribute to the School of Social Sciences, Media, Film and Education’s goal to foreground human-centric processes and creativity for tech-rich futures and leverage collaborative external partnerships for teaching and research excellence.
The School is home to world-leading programmes in media research, including Swinburne's Centre for Transformative Media Technologies (CTMT) which brings together over 20 researchers, artists and developers from the creative arts, humanities and social sciences, and offers access to cutting-edge motion-capture, virtual production pipeline, and volumetric capture facilities.
To be suitable for the role, you will have experience in teaching at tertiary level and will be an active researcher with a record of publications in quality academic journals and ideally have produced high-quality, non-traditional research outputs. You will be responsible for teaching digital immersive media, developing blended learning materials and assessment, and enhancing work integrated learning strategies.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the following key areas:
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in one or more of the following areas: Emerging Media Technologies; Immersive Media History; Extended Reality; Creative VR, XR, AR; Immersive Media Audiences and Engagement; Immersive Media Design and Content Creation; Interactive Narrative and Storytelling; and Emerging Screen Entertainment Platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to lead curriculum development and high-quality teaching in the areas of emerging technologies and immersive media including with group work and capstone projects.
- A strong track record of leading and participating in disciplinary research evidenced through publications, NTROs, involvement in research grants and/or other relevant outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to liaise with a wide variety of academics and students, work within a consultative, team environment in multi-disciplinary contexts, including an ability to work effectively with senior members of the School, University and relevant figures in industry and community.

PhD or equivalent
