What you’ll do: 

  • Program Management: Implement effective program controls and governance, and coordinating submissions for external grants and funding opportunities to ensure projects are identified, prioritised, and resourced to deliver agreed outcomes on time and on budget.
  • Advise: Manage and lead the delivery of complex hydrology and hydraulic studies, including Probable Maximum Flood estimation and extreme flood studies in the assessment of spillway adequacy, dam break studies, flood mapping and operation, water delivery, and emergency procedures and consequence assessments to assist in meeting legal, regulatory, and business requirement.
  • Planning: Lead the delivery of complex hydrology and hydraulic studies, including investigation of system and asset performance, to ensure hydrologic factors are well understood and managed with acceptable risk, to inform water supply infrastructure planning and system resilience strategies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Review and recommend improvements to procedures and processes for analysis, evaluation and mitigation of risk in model development and operation, towards greater consistency in decision making; capture learning and minimise costs.

What we are looking for:  

  • Relevant Tertiary Engineering qualifications and expert knowledge in hydrology/hydraulics/water supply/water data systems through post graduate studies or through demonstrated extensive experience.
  • Experience in analysis and investigation of water supply system capabilities and use of innovative hydrologic and hydraulic models for water infrastructure asset planning, delivery, and optimisation.
  • Extensive experience in flood hydrology and catchment hydrology, floodplain management, use of analytical techniques in hydrology and hydraulics to provide business insights and inform decision making.
  • High level understanding of risk assessment processes including economic, social and environmental impact of dams and regulatory processes for flood works approval, and understanding of climate change assessment relevant to water related modelling applications. 
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with experience in preparing project plans, cost estimates, business cases and complex technical reports and communicate at all levels.
