American computer manufacturer, Dell, is increasing its employment of specialist staff in Australia, according to a report in the Australian Financial Review.

The AFR says that Dell has hired more than 100 new staff so far this year, following an increase of 200 last year.

Dell’s Australian managing director, Joe Kremer, was quoted as saying the firm way taking on “any type of specialization”, and he expected the rate of hiring to continue or accelerate throughout the year.

Mr Kremer told the AFR that Dell was evaluating a number of possible sites for a data centre that is expected to be opened next year.

Dell was recently selected by the Australian Government Information Management Office as one of six companies to overhaul data management systems as part of a program to reduce infrastructure costs by $1 billion over the next decade.
