Demand for internet speeds of 20Mbps and higher is continuing to grow according to the latest ZDNet Australia speedtest.

The report, published by ZDNet, found that between May and June last year, 28 per cent of tests recorded speeds in excess of 8Mpbs. In the last two months of the year, this had risen to 32 per cent.

The report speculates that the uptake of increasingly fast broadband connections was, in part, thanks to the large ISPs pushing traffic onto their hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) networks. Telstra, according to the report, had increased its percentage of customers recording 8Mbps from 36 per cent to 41 per cent in the last six months of 2011.
