Over 5 per cent of Internode’s customers are now using IPv6, according to the company’s founder Simon Hackett.

Speaking at the IPv6 summit, Mr Hackett said the number of customers using the new protocol had more than doubled in the last six months.

"This strong and rising adoption rate shows that both customers and networks are ready and that IPv6 is now a mature and reliable aspect of Internet access," Mr Hackett said.

Since January this year, the company has connected all new customers to IPv6, with all access routers offering IPv6 out of the box.

The announcement by Mr Hackett comes after the company was awarded the prestigious ANZIA award for rollout of IPv6 in Australia.
