Linux Australia (LA), the umbrella organisation which runs Linux operations throughout Australia, has announced its intention to form a media sub-committee to help Linux Australia become "more visible and vocal on issues that are important to us, including issuing releases and responding to press enquiries".

Positions on the sub-committee would not be paid, but LA will meet all expenses while conferences and other events are organised.

LA’s flagship event is the annual Australian national Linux conference (LCA), which will next be held in Ballarat on 16 - 20 January 2012.

The open source software organisation also runs a number of other initatives through sub-committees, such as PyCon, Drupal Down Under, and WordCamp while also providing a grant to the Ada Initative, designed to increase the involvement of women in the free and open source software field.
