The National Broadband Network Co (NBN Co) has announced the rollout of fibre optic cable in Coffs Harbour, forming part of the widespread rollout of the service in the area.

The distribution fibre is some of the first being laid which links the exchange at Coffs Harbour to homes and businesses throughout the local area.

"The fibre being hauled here in Coffs Harbour marks an important step in the rollout of the NBN on the Mid North Coast - it shows that work is underway to provide super-fast broadband to homes and businesses by early 2013," NBN Co spokesperson Darren Rudd said today.

"Construction work has already commenced on rolling out the NBN to around 20,000 homes and businesses in Coffs Harbour and 10,000 premises in Sawtell.

"And construction is set to have commenced or be completed for around one million homes and businesses across New South Wales by mid-2015.

"In parts of Coffs Harbour we're aiming for construction to wrap up in early 2013, which means homes and businesses are expected to be able to connect to services over the NBN shortly after.
