Swinburne University of Technology has hosted a national information and communication technology forum to discuss ways that business industry, tertiary education and governments can better improve the development of the ICT profession and its role in building businesses and driving economic growth.

President of the Australian Council of Deans of ICT, Professor Leon Sterling, said that the forum presented an opportunity to renew the dialogue from the last ICT summit to ensure deep and enduring links with businesses continue to be built and maintained.

"This will provide a significant opportunity for business, industry, tertiary education and government to progress the future development of the ICT profession and its role in business and economic performance,” Professor Sterling said.

Professor Sterling said the forum was an opportunity to highlight and strengthen commitment to innovation, productivity improvements and the collaborations between business, industry, higher education and government.

"There is enormous potential for industry and business to gain from links with universities, and for universities to benefit from knowing what their stakeholders need," Professor Sterling said.

"Issues on the agenda at the forum include embedding the impact of ICT in everyday business, whether it be large or small, skills convergence and the need for cross-disciplinary course modules, course structure and pedagogies."
