Telstra has announced Australia’s first 4G LTE mobile Wi-Fi service after it showcased the battery-powered Telstra Mobile Wi-Fi 4G and the Bigpond Mobile Wi-Fi 4G.

Anthea Roberts, Director, Telstra Mobile, said a surge in tablet and smartphone ownership meant Australians were increasingly turning to fast mobile broadband connectivity to get the most out of their devices on the go.

“The introduction of the Telstra Mobile Wi-Fi 4G  also means more people can take advantage of the improved web responsiveness available on 4G which makes real-time applications like video conferencing, internet gaming and cloud-hosted streaming services work better with less buffering and fewer interruptions,” Ms Roberts said.

Customers using 4G enabled devices in covered areas can expect download speeds ranging from 2Mpbs to 40Mbps and typical upload speeds between 1Mbps and 10Mbps.

The BigPond Mobile Wi-Fi 4G available to consumer customers launches on 27 March and can be purchased for personal use on a range of 24 month plans – including $59.95 per months for 24 months with 8GB of included data each month to use in Australia plus $49 upfront (min cost $1,487.80).
