Businesses in central Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane will be have access to Telstra’s next generation wireless Internet service after the telco announced a trial for its fourth generation (4G) technology.

CEO David Thodey announced in a statement that 2000 USB 4G mobiles will be made available as of August 29 in an advanced trial. Telstra has announced that 4G coverage will initially be available within a 5 kilometre radius of the GPO of each of the trial cities and will theoretically be able to provide speeds of up to 100 megabits per second.

Mr Thodey announced that the 4G network, which was switched on in May this year, will be available to the general public later this year.

“Our investment in next-generation 4G mobile technology will help meet Australia’s growing demand for faster speeds and create additional capacity in our network,” Mr Thodey said in a statement.
