The University of Western Australia has received a $300,000 grant to further its research into improving wireless broadband internet services in rural and regional Australia under the grants awarded by the Australian Research Council (ARC).

The funding will allow the university to pursue research that will serve to improve services provided by the National Broadband Network (NBN).

While the university has announced its planned use of the funds, namely theoretical work to build an economic method of providing ubiquitous services to a far reaching areas of the country, it will also aim to win a further $500,000 in funding to employ additional researchers to expedite the research.

The $300,000 forms part of a total $16.6 million in funding awarded to the university under the ARC grant scheme.
