We currently have a great opportunity for an individual with strong data analysis and numeracy skills to join the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) in the role of Settlement Analyst. This is a full-time 12-month fixed-term position, based in our Melbourne CBD office.

This position will support AEMO's Settlement and Prudentials through performing operational and analytical activities relating to the financial aspects of the National Electricity Market (NEM), Declared Wholesale Gas Market (DWGM), Short Term Trading Market (STTM), Queensland Retail Market (QLD FRC) and the Gas Supply Hub to ensure continued compliance with the National Electricity Rules and National Gas Rules.

As well as being responsible for performing operational settlement activities across all energy markets operated by AEMO, ensuring compliance with relevant rules and procedures, the successful candidate will be responsible for investigating, analysing and resolving issues arising, answering participant queries and testing systems changes. The incumbent will also ensure process documentation is maintained to meet AEMO’s obligations and reflect current practice, and support external audits.

The key role requirements include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a technical, business or commercial discipline.
  • Approximately 3 years’ work experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience in carrying out operational tasks, preparing business procedures as well as experience in user acceptance testing.
  • Experience in advanced data analysis, and the development of data analysis tools including Microsoft (MS) Excel and Access.
  • Understanding of the system delivery of complex financial or engineering calculations or billing / settlement processes in database systems such as Sybase or Oracle.
  • Understanding of complex financial transactions and audit requirements underpinned by strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • An understanding of database structures and the ability to query relational databases using SQL.
  • Knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications particularly utilising MS Excel and/ or MS Access
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

General understanding of the role and functions of AEMO and its regulatory environment and/or energy sector experience would be an advantage.
