About the team

In this position of a Data Science Engineer, you will report into the Data Science Lead. 

You will work as part of a high performing, technical team serving as a trusted advisor by cultivating relationships with stakeholders and across Advanced Analytics teams. You will help a rapidly growing businesses harness the power of the Cloud and DevOps with digital transformation and optimization solutions. This role will engage at Site reliability engineer level and help coordinating with the broader advanced analytics team on day to operations, new requirements and engage Engineering wherever required. 

Key responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include the following but not be limited to:

  • Shape and drive the AA values within the team 
  • Share knowledge and experience across the team  
  • Participate in the development of the vision for data / analytics architecture 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in Analytics, Commercial and IT streams to deliver valuable solutions to key business problems 
  • Serve as a trusted advisor by cultivating relationships with stakeholders to improve their understanding and knowledge of analytical techniques and outcomes 
  • Effective Communication with key stakeholders around the delivery of key projects 
  • Prioritisation of analytics projects – ensuring key stakeholder collaboration to ensure projects are prioritised in-line with overall business priorities 
  • Design and implement new algorithms to meet business needs 
  • Lead projects to deliver on time and high quality  
  • Work according to the agile project methodology 
  • Source, develop and apply new and existing analytical methods and techniques  
  • Use of a variety of sources to keep abreast of industry practices 
  • Ensure key stakeholders are updated, ensuring the commercial impact has been explored / communicated 
  • Accountable for individual and team compliance with company values, policies and procedures (including Coles Code of Conduct) and all applicable external laws and regulations. 
  • Embedding compliance requirements into business planning and practices. 
  • Establishing and maintaining effective governance practices across areas of responsibility. 
  • Leading a strong governance and compliance culture amongst team. 
  • Resolving, managing and reporting compliance incidents. 
  • Ensuring team member compliance, training and development is adequately addressed. 
  • Accountable for individual compliance with company values, policies and procedures (including Coles Code of Conduct) and all applicable external laws and regulations. 

About you and your skills

  • 3+ years of experience as a technologist 
  • 1+ years of SRE experience 
  • Experience programming in at least one of the following languages: Python, R, Perl, Go, or C/C++. 
  • Experience in CI/CD, Kubernetes 
  • Cluster management, monitoring, ability to fix both application and infrastructure issues 
  • Experience with cloud native languages 
  • Administer configuration of all software services into various different environments. 
  • Ability to operate and a resourceful and independent manner  
  • Documentation skills 
  • Experience with technical products – Terraform, Ansible, Python, Docker Kubernetes, Databricks, Artifactory 
  • Productivity applications - Git, Jira, Confluence 

Good things to have

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Econometrics, Applied Statistics, Physics, Engineering or related field. 
  • Business and commercial acumen
