Full Stack Software Engineer

The Position

Advanced Data Analytics in Transport (ADAIT) is a research and development unit in Data61. Data61 is Australia’s leading data innovation group, which currently partners with 29 universities in Australia and more than 90 corporate and 30 government structures in order to create Australia’s data-driven future. Data61's ADAIT group is an international front runner in applying state-of-the-art artificial intelligence, machine learning and cloud computing in the ITS industry.

Since its inception in 2013, ADAIT won the ITS Australia National Award on Research in 2014 and 2015 consecutively. It won the prestigious NSW Premier’s Innovation Initiative in 2015 to deliver predictive modelling capabilities for congestion management in Sydney. It became a core partner in the TfNSW initiative for On-Demand Public Transport in 2017, with responsibilities on predictive data modelling. ADAIT has a long-term ongoing collaboration with NSW Roads and Maritime Services on a number of innovation projects.

ADAIT’s transport data analytics platform handles more than 800 million data transactions on daily basis. This includes real-time streaming data from traffic control systems, transport operation systems and data bundles on journey transactions. The platform hosts predictive analytics modules that derive actionable insights from data for intelligent congestion and journey management.

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join the ADAIT engineering team, In this role you will build high-quality products for industrial clients, and prototypes to support transport-related research. To be successful you will be a strong full-stack developer, preferably with modern front-end web technology experience, and have a passion for sharing, learning and contributing to distributed service and web application development.

Salary:        AU $97K - AU $105K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need:

  • A relevant tertiary degree (e.g. computer science, software engineering, physics or mathematics), or equivalent working experience.
  • Solid engineering and software coding skills, with experience writing scalable, high performance, production quality code.
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, C++ or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in front end development, especially using node.js, VueJS, Angular 4+, ngrx/store.
  • Familiar with RESTFul API design/development using Spring Boot framework.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, Kafka, Spark and Hadoop.
