- Help enable discovery in computational chemistry and materials science
The role of Research Scientist in CSIRO is to design innovative solutions leading to scientific achievements that are aligned with CSIRO's strategies. You may be engaged in scientific activity ranging from fundamental research to the investigation of specific industry or community problems. You will have the opportunity to build and maintain networks, play a lead role in securing project funds, provide scientific leadership and pursue new ideas and approaches that create new concepts.
An outstanding opportunity exists for a motivated and skilled Research Scientist to join Data61’s Molecular and Materials Modelling (MMM) Team. MMM is a multi-disciplinary team that develops advanced methods, software, and platforms to enable discovery in computational chemistry and materials science.
This position supports computational research activities in Data61 on organic matter spanning biological length scales, and will play a key role in the Data61 Personalised Health strategy. The role will engage broadly with other life sciences professionals across the organisation, such as the Biomedical Manufacturing program in CSIRO Manufacturing.
The role is focused on drug discovery applications, including de novo modelling of binding small molecules into active sites of proteins, including speculative new ligands and how well they might bind; modelling of peptides to help design non-peptide small molecule analogues; and quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) analysis using machine learning to predict the relationship between function and small molecules interactions.
