As an S&T 4 Mathematics Specialist - Cryptomathematics the applicant will, under some supervision, research and develop applications of mathematical and statistical techniques to solve Defence and National Security problems.

Duties and Key Result Areas:

• The responsibilities of a S&T4 Mathematics Specialist - Cryptomathematics include:
• Implementing and delivering high quality S&T within assigned teams
• Engaging Defence clients, as well as national and international collaborators, in pursuit of techniques for solving cryptomathematical problems
• Recording and reporting activities undertaken, in accordance with Divisional policy
• Representing DST nationally and internationally in associated areas of expertise

Key requirements of the role:

• The ability to contribute strongly to, and participate in, a multi-disciplinary team in the research and development of practical concepts, tools and techniques in mathematics
• Demonstrated proficiency in computational techniques in mathematics
• Persistence and application in the solving of difficult scientific problems
• An ability to adapt to changes in research projects due to changes in priorities
• Clear and effective communication of research outcomes to technical and non-technical audiences
